Minpin Coat Colours
Please keep in mind that this page is for educational purposes only. I only breed the accepted colours in the Canadian Kennel club breed standard, as set forth by the Canadian Miniature Pinscher Club.  I DO NOT breed dilute Miniature Pinschers.
Still Under Construction!
There are several colours that the Miniature pinscher naturally comes in but not all are accepted colours in the Canadian Kennel club breed Standard.
1.  Red (various shades from light to very dark)
2.  Stag Red (red with black hairs - "sable" in other breeds)
3.  Black/Rust
4.  Chocolate/Rust
5.  Blue/Tan (not accepted)
6.  Isabella
(some call this Fawn/Tan)-(not accepted)

Only Red, Stag Red, Black/rust and Chocolate/Rust are listed as permitted colours in the Canadian Kennel Club Miniature pinscher breed Standard.  The Reds must have Black Nose/pigment.   Some reds have liver coloured noses/pigment, blue noses/pigment, isabella noses/pigment. This is a disqualification in the show ring.  It is also very unfortunate that the standard calls for Dark eyes even on chocolates.  The liver gene is a lightening gene so is impossible to get dark eye with this colour.  The standard is flawed and makes showing this colour difficult.

Black/Rust (Onyx)                                                Chocolate/Rust (Raija)

The 3 pictures above are the colours that are accepted in the CKC show ring today.
I DO NOT have a picture of a TRUE Stag Red Minpin.

Below are the the colours that are not currently accpted in CKC show ring.

Isabella (Fawn/Tan)                                                         Blue and Tan
Both these dogs Developed Colour Dilution Alopecia.  The Isabella at 9 months of age and the blue/Tan at 2yrs of age.

Black/Rust and Red Littermates

Notice be different shades of red.  The darker reds will grow up to be dark 'mahogany' with black toe nails while the lighter "clear" reds will have reddish yellow toenails. (Darla is the lighter red one trying to snuggle over the black/rust)
